I recently read about a Japanese doctor who won the 2016 Nobelium Prize for his work on the effects of fasting on nerve cell regeneration. Has anyone tried or read about the optimum fasting time to bring about such changes, particularly to the myelin sheath over the peripheral nerves?

Japanese cell biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi won the 2016 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine (not the Nobel Peace Prize) for discovering the mechanisms of autophagy aka starvation —the body's internal recycling system. His work showed how cells break down and reuse damaged parts during nutrient deprivation or fasting, though his research did not specifically focus on nerve regeneration
Ohsumi’s prize-winning work studied yeast cells, not direct nerve repair.Broader modern science studies show that autophagy helps clear toxic proteins linked to brain diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, supporting overall nerve cell health rather than direct nerve regeneration. Nerve Mylin Sheath different than nerve regeneration. Currently, the doctors have not figured out how to regenerate nerves.
