This will be my first visit to mayo in Minn. I went for years to Floridas mayo. I always knew who I was seeing and that info was also in my patient portal ahead of time. Thsi time, they have not yet assigned my doctor to me. It will be a gastro visit. Upon calling they said it depends which gastro is there that day and available so I will not know ahead of time!?!? This concerns me because I am unsure it will even end up being a doctor. Let alone not haveing any idea who they are or looking them up ahead of time. I have a serioulsy rare disease. I get dimissed a lot so I always like to know who I will be dealing with. I find it strange that you walk in with zero idea who you will be seeing. It is not on my portal nor can they tell me when I call. Is this normal???

I have noticed that I no longer see a specific provider name in the appointment schedule when I have my first visit in a new area. Though sometimes it appears prior to the appointment. If you're concerned about it being a PA vs. an MD, you can call and make that request. Though PAs at Mayo are excellent and overseen by an MD.

As the previous poster mentioned, your records will be reviewed, and you will be assigned to a provider who best fits your condition.

When is your appointment?

@butterflykizzs, you should see the name of a physician in the portal for your appointment if it is a consultation. I think there may have been some confusion in the conversation you had with the scheduler. It is possible, likely(?) that GI experts are currently reviewing your records to determine the most appropriate physician to assign to manage your visit and assess the appointments required, with whom, in what order, etc.

You will start to see appointments and physician name(s) appear as your appointment date approaches. Additionally, you will receive both electronically and by mail a Patient Appointment Guide (PAG) that outlines all the details of your visit, appointments, test, what you need to prepare, etc.

@butterflykizzs (love the username), how soon is your appointment?
