I had a double bypass on the LAD following a ligation of 2 complex coronary fistulas and aneurysm on the right coronary artery. that took about 7 hours. We had a plan for the ascending aorta and aortic root, but the surgeon and I thought it was too much that day for the 4.7cm ascending aorta and 4.8cm aortic root. We had a plan for 3 different scenarios for the aortic stuff. He had it on the O.R. board and the material available but weren't going to do it unless he had to open the aorta to fix the other stuff. They had me off the bypass machine and heart restarted checking me for stasis. Everything looked good until the root started seeping blood and ruptured while the surgeon was checking things out. He had 2 fingers in the hole for 7 minutes while they got me back on the bypass machine. I lost 0.92 gallon of blood in the mean time. Surgery ended up 14.5 hours that day following 3 major procedures then the Bentall procedure. I was under anesthesia for 27 hours. My surgeon got to see what happened to John Ritter and Linsey Graham in real time.
