Guess I am way behind, before my long time PCP retired the DRE was done even on my Wellness test. Actually his wellness visit was a full physical, not like today when they just talk to you. Then I found this on a Google search:

(DREs) are generally not recommended by major U.S. health organizations like the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force as a standalone or primary screening test for prostate cancer due to a lack of evidence proving a net benefit compared to blood tests.

Latest news from Australia is that they have stopped doing DRE completely.

The blood tests and CT and pet scans Have made it unnecessary.

If you’re over 65 and on Medicare, then the annual physical is really no longer an annual physical. As you have found out, they talk to you, maybe give you some blood tests. Real disappointed to find this out a couple years ago. Almost makes it worthless to go, as long as you can complain about everything wrong that happens and get a response.
