@grammato3 My mistake. That should be “he would not give his opinion”. He seems to be leaving it up to me to choose but I would like to know what he thinks is best. He did say he had confidence in the high risk nature of my tumor. My sons are divided with one in favor of starting now and one favoring wait until something shows up. I’m leaning towards starting soon since it looks like there is a high chance that I will need it sometime. I’m looking at getting a second opinion as you mentioned if I don’t get comfortable with going ahead. I guess he may be seeing my age(84) as a factor and thinking I might want to just live out my time and avoid hassle and side effects of treatment, but I still have things to do and people to see! I’m sure not ready to go yet.

@joetex: I hear you loud and clear! I wonder if one question for your current provider - and one for a second opinion should you choose that - is if a recurrence does indeed happen, would it potentially be more aggressive and not as amenable to treatment? In this day and age, 84 is still spry for many folks and you do seem to be in that category; we shared many happy times with my own dad until his age of over 99 and my father-in-law continued to consult as an sharp minded attorney into his 90's!

In my own situation, I elected to undergo Keytruda that worked well...until it didn't, and by that I mean some adverse effects that required intervention. However, by that point by metastatic lesion had resolved and I have remained without evidence of disease although I continue to be monitored at regular intervals. I, too, focus on the things I want to do and people I want to see yet remain open to the possibility of more intervention I may need in the future. We didn't ask for this wrench to be thrown into our lives but getting the hardware to deal with it is a lot harder than going down the aisles at Home Depot, isn't it?!

Let me know what tools help you along your journey. We can all learn from each other.
