Profile picture for basal @basal

I am on my last week of GentleCure radiation for a basal cell on my right temple. I have had MOHS surgery for basal cells on my face in the past and didn't want anymore scarring. So far the treatment is going well. I'm red and irritated at the site but am assured that the redness will go away after treatment. I've noticed in just the past few days that I am feeling fatigued. Has anyone else felt fatigue during treatment?

@basal: I'm glad to hear you're nearing the end of your treament. Several years ago I underwent radiation for a skin cancer on my face although I honestly can't recall if it was Gentle Cure and what, if any, my side effects were. However, since radiation does affect cells that require energy to rebuild cells this often does result in a general feeling of fatigue that even rest doesn't help to mitigate. Your body is in essence working overtime to restore healthy cells - and that can feel exhausting while it's occuring. Give yourself time - even up to a few weeks following completion - to start to feel like your baseline self. It's usually a gradual process.

Can you check back in mid-September or so with an update?

@basal Yes, i had the full course of 7 weeks of Gentle Cure for a rather large spot on my nose. I, too, got fatigued. It wasn't too bad, but I did notice it from time to time. It will go away. The treatment area also got very red and inflamed but after two months that has died down. It's only a faint shadow now, and I am expecting it to fade completely. It does take time though. Good luck to you.
