I believe I have Luque rods. In 1986 I had a horse riding accident in which I crushed L1. My surgeon, Dr. Van Peteghem installed the rods in Vancouver, Canada. Sadly these rods failed and I had further surgery in 1991, when Harrington rods were placed into my spine. The Luque rods are made of Titanium and this means the body attaches to the rods and grows around them. I was told that they cannot be removed.

Correct. They are a part of me until I am gone! They have kept me upright and I am so glad they were what my doctors decided to use.
