@mmalone1804 I don’t think it is normal for the pumps to malfunction after 4-5 years but I’m sure there are a number of cases where this indeed is the case, as we see in this thread. I’ve had my pump now for just over 5 years without any issues (knock wood) and I hear many who is on their second and third pump. I believe as with anything else that this tech sometimes malfunctions, however this is the exception to the story of pumps and not the norm. They would not implant this pump so frequently if they were unsafe and riddled with issues, especially since a pump malfunction literally can be fatal. In comparison doctors have to do revision surgeries all the time on spinal cord stimulator and DRG stims so in a way it is the name of the game with these implants that
you might need a revision surgery down the line, or worse you become victim of human errors such as a pocket fill which in turn can kill you.
I always say these pumps are not for the faint of heart. There is great risk associated with this type of targeted pain management, yet when done right it can be life changing in good way.
