Sometimes you should leave things alone! During my RP the surgeon found a inguinal hernia and did a repair, I will put his notes below. I knew I had an inguinal hernia since the late 1980s and it never bothered me. And believe me, I did a lot of heavy lifting and still was lifting heavy objects before surgery. Primary care doc back in late 80s said just watch it since it didn’t bother me. I did the old cough test and it never got worse. Wouldn’t even know I had one if not for the old turn head and cough test. But without my permission this surgeon decided it needed fixed.
Now his fix seems to have come undone and I have a swollen sore area where they put the mesh or whatever! Doc can’t see me until Thursday 4PM. If he just left it alone like I had for the last 40 years, this wouldn’t be yet another problem I need to deal with from surgery. A lawyer friend said he shouldn’t have done it unless I okayed the procedure. Anyway, just something else to deal with along with incontinence and wondering about BCR along with a very ill granddaughter. This should have been left alone, it wasn't a problem. Now I don't see anyway out of another surgery to correct what I didn't want!! And then I better not hear about limiting myself as I had no limits prior to getting fixed what didn't need fixing. I was fine in that area, some things shouls be left alone unless they are bothering you. Below is part of surgery op notes:
After the lymph nodes were done, on mobilizing down the retroperitoneal space, he was noted to have a large direct inguinal hernia, which we did not identify prior to surgery, but being that we were there, I typically repair these at the same time as the prostatectomy, so we do not have to come back, so I just basically extended the lateral dissection out to the psoas muscle a little bit and then I put in a medium piece of Bard 3D mesh on the right side covering a large defect in the abdominal wall and I tacked down the 3D mesh in about 4 or 5 spots down to Cooper ligaments medially up to the abdominal fascia as well as superiorly and laterally and then I did close the retroperitoneal space with a 2-0 Vicryl repair and 7-French flat drain
