@cobweb

i had the sharp pain when i did my exercises. When i did water aerobics my knee swelled up. Could never figure that out. Frustrating thing was i was i strong shape when i had my tkr but the therapy never seemed to work. Three -four years later i still have pain but i tend to ignore it.

Hi cobwebs, what did the surgeon say about your pain? I do a lot of exercises in the pool so there is no banging my feet on the bottom of the pool and so far so good. I put a belt on and go in the deep end all the time because I have a bad back also. I am 4 months post TKR. I am Marield65. Nice communicating with you.

He was not sure why it was swollen. I could feel it swelling as I worked out so I stopped. Nothing but time helped.
Today I played golf and my TKR knee hurts afterwards. Stem cell knee feels ok. I have lost 11 pounds this summer and both knees feel better. I am six foot three and feel I am not over weight but I lost the pounds anyway. Key is to keep it off when winter arrives..

@marield65 Marie, I too do pool exercises and sometimes by myself, jogging up and down the pool. I was a slug over the weekend so today I did over an hour.
How long after your TKR did you have to wait to go into the pool? That was something I was just thinking about today since I am scheduled for one in October. Did you go to Boston for that or did you stay local? I am going to Dr. Wolfgang Fitz. He is on staff at Brigham and Women's and does his surgeries there or at Faulkner which is part of Brigham and Women's. I was supposed to get this done two or three years ago but it was cancelled at the last minute due to my platelet count (low platelets are a symptom of cirrhosis but they had not diagnosed cirrhosis yet). That time I was at Faulkner, lying on the gurney, IV in my hand, when he came in and told me he could not do it. This time I am going to B&W.

How long before you could get into the pool to exercise?

Hello again, I was able to get in the pool when the surgical scar was fully healed and the Dr gave me the ok. I think it was at 6 was ck up. You have to make sure that the wound is closed so no water can get in and infect it. I am in the pool for hours at a time because I meet a group of women there and we all have our noodles and do a lot of leg exercises while we talk. We are all in our 60's and 70's. And several had knee replacement surgery.
If there are any more questions, ask away. Marield65

@marield65 Marie, it sounds like the club I go to. There are classes at 9:00 in the morning with a great group of women, same age range, and a few men. Everyone's favorite instructor is 69 and she is great, very vigorous. She always has us swinging our arms too because that gives you more cardio. Some of the younger instructors must look at us like "what can this bunch of old people can do?" because they do not work us nearly as hard, and heck if you are in the water for a workout you want a real workout. If I don't manage to get to class I do my own thing which I prefer to do alone because that way I can keep up a better pace. I do not want my workout to be like a walk in the park.

Maybe I asked b4 but, I'm running out of options for getting into stem cell clinical trial soooo. Tell me All about stem cell, Where?
Dr. name?
$?,
how long recovery?
Condition of knee now?
Mari

my recovery was 10 days. No pain, no pills, just laid around and watched tv or read a book. I know prices vary. i paid $7000 but i have read where people paid more or some less. Dr Kruse at Wildwood in Toledo. Played golf yesterday and knee feel fine. Rode 15 miles on bike on sunday and knee feels fine. I can garden, get on my knee and do things i cannot do with tkr. I also had stem cells on my back. That was a $1000.
I would look around on the net to see who is close to you. Get an appointment, have an mri and then find out if you are a candidate for stem cells. I have heard the arguments that it doesn't last etc, so i am an experiment hoping it works out. Its going on 3 years. We will see.

@mari @cobweb I am curious too since I am scheduled for a TKR. I looked it up and found this informative link:
http://www.webmd.com/osteoarthritis/news/20170407/stem-cells-for-knees-promising-treatment-or-hoax#1
I just cannot afford to take the chance that it might not work considering how much it costs.
