@rollingf That sounds beautiful. I want to see more of that part of the country one day. I doubt I could hike that high or far at this point in my life, but I still want to travel to see that part of the country. I love to camp. It is also a favorite activity for peace, I find. My favorite place is near the Appalachian trail in Hot Springs, NC. It is about 30-45 minutes from Asheville. It is along the French Broad river and there are mineral filled Hot Springs that you can make a reservation to soak at a lodge. It is neat to see the hikers come off the trail to stock up. It is about the size of Mayberry (Andy Griffith 🙂 )

The trail to Cloud Peak is mostly an easy slight incline for the 6 miles. The last 1/4 mile is steep and almost seems vertical as you go up a bowl. You cross the crest of the bowl at 10,200 ft and the view is spectacular! I'm 84 now and I not sure I could do the hike again. Even in late summer, I don't think you would want to go into the lake.
Near Asheville is a YMCA camp. The National Wildlife Federation would have a week long education program there. My family went there several times. The Program was called Summit Camps.
