@dbarn68: The neurologist I consulted sent me to the radiation oncologist telling me my meningioma, 1/16th of an inch from my optic nerve, was inoperable. I don't remember the radiation oncologist specifically referencing IMRT. What I do remember is that he said he had some concerns about doing radiation so close to my optic nerve and he was going to consult a neurosurgeon at UCSF that he knew. Coincidentally, that same day, my daughter insisted that I was only going to Dept. of Neurosurgery at UCSF and not limit myself to our local neurosurgery dept. She was correct. It was worth the 90 minute drive to San Francisco. The neurosurgeon there said he could remove the meningioma. That was 2 and 1/2 years ago and I'm doing well.
