OH, my goodness, the poor lady. I believe in natural methods before medication. So please don't be offended. I have "nursed" four elderly in-laws and I'm 76 myself. (#1) - If she is unable to walk, I would find 3 or 4 simple abdominal exercises that she could manage to perform in the mornings, to get things flowing; get the blood pumping and wake up the digestive tract. Just a little exercise helps tremendously; our bodies were not designed to be sedentary. The bowel is our "2nd brain" so effects our whole body. (I have had similar pains and testing, only to be told it was intestinal colic. I discovered on my own, that milk casein caused a problem the day or two after consuming it. So I stopped all pizza, cheese, milk incl.2A milk & Lactaid milk, buttermilk, ranch dressing et c. . . . the only dairy I can tolerate is BUTTER. Otherwise, even if I ingest just a small amount of cheese or milk, I develop gas and constipation. BTW, many products that claim to be dairy-free still contain casein. Such as Cool whip and coffee creamers.) I include my own story, in case it might help others realize that you must diagnose yourself sometimes. (#2) the UTI can be helped/avoided by taking d-mannose, which is a naturally occuring sugar that remedies the bladder environment, works similar to cranberry. For some reason, Docs do not prescribe this. You would probably want to ask the Doc about this, although it's a natural food. (#3) Try giving her 3T.+ of unprocessed coconut butter daily. It is very healing for the digestive system and has been shown to help people with dementia, among other benefits. Easy to find at WalMart or Amazon. I admire your love and care for your sister! she is a very lucky girl!

Yes, our gut health is critical to our overall health. She loves milk but rarely drinks any as it is a trigger for her incontinence. Another sister cannot have dairy (trigger for psoriasis) but we've learned to read labels since "dairy-free" can cover a lot of products, just like "organic" labels. I feel like I've read something about d-mannose recently. I'll research this and the coconut butter.

@lauracbaker Also, we try to do her physical therapy exercises with her each morning.
