Hi, I am 4.5 weeks from having my sigmoid colon removed and resected down low. I am struggling with bowel clustering and stool fragmentation. The constant stools irritate my internal hemorrhoids so my whole bottom feels puffy and achy. They initially told me I should start to feel better at about 4 weeks but I am still anemic and exhausted and adding on the pain I am pretty miserable. I hope by 8 weeks I am doing better… hope you are better too!

Hello @mlb56 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am sorry to hear that your recovery is not going as easily as you had hoped. Everyone does recover differently.

Perhaps you might find some encouragement by reading a discussion group title, How Do I Eat After Digestive Tract Surgery?. Here is a link to that discussion: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/how-do-i-eat-after-digestive-tract-surgery/

There are many people in this group who have had sigmoid surgery including @linda82. Perhaps you will find some support and encouragement as you read the posts. Can you eat comfortably now?

You mention that you are still anemic. Were you anemic prior to the surgery? Have any meds or supplements been provided to you to help with the anemia?
