Hello @nobert and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Please accept my condolences on the death of your wife. I'm glad that you found this forum and have expressed your sense of loss. You said she was "My best friend since we were in high school," so I can only imagine how close you must have been.
As @artistrose suggested, I would suggest finding a grief support group in your area. I'm sure you will find others, like yourself, who feel a loss of purpose after years of caregiving.
Do you have a community of friends that can support you now? I'm thinking of family, an organization like a church or community center? It is important for you to find support.
Will you post again and let me know how you are doing?

@nobert So sorry to hear of your loss. I’d like to suggest connecting with a grief support group. You can find one through your local hospital or check with your doctor’s office. Although everyone’s experience of grief is different, you will find common ground with others. I went to one when I lost both of my parents and I found it really helped me with my grief.
