Hi folks,
Let's bring this conversation back to its original topic of supporting @virtuous.
@IndianaScott 10:15pm. Scott have you heard from your kids down in the Florida area? Talking to a phone tech today said Indiana wild fires were causing bad air. Post when you can.
Will be praying Dori Virtuous69
Hi @virtuous Dori, Thanks for asking about our children in Florida. They have decided to stay there. Hopefully it will be OK as they are inland in Central Florida and have made some solid preparations. Our daughter-in-law is a special needs teacher and wanted to remain where she could be close to her students. Our son was up well before dawn providing transportation to shelters for those who cannot drive, have no car, are in care facilities, etc. His organization has been deemed a critical service so he stayed as well. They have spaces at a shelter along with some MREs just in case -- plus a spot in a pet-friendly shelter for their golden retriever.
I am in northern Minnesota visiting my wife's family and will have to check the Indiana fire situation! Thanks for the heads-up! Up here we have a surprising amount of smoke and particulates in the air from the wildfires in Montana, Wyoming, and Canada. Not a good thing, but a side benefit has been some very pretty sunsets! I've attached one from last night.
I am finding the solitude and the change of seasons up here to be good medicine for me. The 'season' is over up here so all is quiet and I have always found my soul refreshes and repairs when I am out seeing Mother Nature's handiwork. Plus I have not been here for over 7 years so I have missed it greatly. Funny how a colorful leaf can be so amazing. Plus just this morning I saw white-tail deer, rabbits, a great horned owl, and three pileated woodpeckers. I remember well when our children were in their single digits walking these woods in search of their favorite fungi -- puffball mushrooms! They thought they were magic and I still do 🙂
I hope all is going OK with you. Thanks again for reaching out and asking!
Prayers to all those in Florida and the Caribbean as Jose seems intent on chasing Irma!
Scott, just sent you along post , so glad to hear about kids hunting down and your lovely morning walk. Was just signing off after I took me half an hour to create this post and then may I sent me an error message sa@ying sorry we're having trouble sending this message. Aggg it took me forever to create the post and then it goes and gets lost in the Twilight Zone because Mayo says sorry we're having trouble sending this post. Boy do I feel like Stuck on Stupid and I'm very angry I don't have time to resend and resend post I have some delightful comments I want to send to you and now I'm really discouraged because I spent all this time trying to create a reply and then Mayo kicks it out of the system. Will try again later to respond to your post about your kids. Respectfully virtuous 69
Words should say hunkering down and see many other typo s .So mad that Mayo Connect drops so many of my well written posts. Will post you again later as I has some humerous replies to those pb sandwiches. Please pray that I get the gist of why some of my posts go "kerflunct" respectfully, Virtuous69 or temporarily Stuck on Stupid.
Hi @virtuous,
Please see my private messages to you. I can help you with how the website functions and how to prevent dropping messages.
No reason to feel 'dumb' @virtuous This happens to me frequently too! I get typing fast and my lazy hand sweeps across some odd combination of keys and all my typing disappears! It is a good thing Connect doesn't have audio or there would be some pretty blue words you'd hear when that happens! When time is of the essence it is tough to lose anything! Just yesterday I was late leaving to get to an appointment and naturally that was when I couldn't find my ding-dong car keys! I raced around for at least 20 minutes looking only to finally find that I had already taken them out to the car and put them in the ignition! ARRGGHHH!
Just heard from our son that he is out with his team running the last buses for folks to shelters. He will run until 10 am then he is calling a stop and will shelter. Waiting he says is nerve wracking and he is pleased to have something to focus on for a couple hours.
Sure am thinking about everyone in Florida today!
Hi @catgic I would only say this about Hurricane Irma. Our son, daughter-in-law and two grandsons live in the path. The island of Barbuda was reported to have been '90% destroyed', Houston is still reeling from their destruction, and since our son is responsible for several hundred employees he has been very thankful for the increased awareness and advance directives from the government. They are not whipping everyone into a frenzy they are providing much needed and hopefully heeded warnings. In 'the old days' we did not have the tracking and science to back up the storm awareness we do now. Preparedness is an important aspect to governing and has been going on for a long, long time. Many lives undoubtedly were saved due to preparedness with Harvey I am sure.
I am glad you have such a good experience with Donna, but many do not have such luck with storms, etc.
Just my two cents, plain.
