@janjack - you may have seen me mention my son was born with a tethered spinal cord (observed then as a sacral dimple) and had surgery at three months. He did get behind on other developmental milestones in the months after, but caught up by age 4 with the help of some school district professionals. He has a scar, but he is now totally fine.

I am happy to see some of your symptoms have gotten better since the surgery.

I'm sorry to hear about the pain you have in your leg as well as difficulty getting upstairs with its longer length. I am offering information on a clinic that addresses leg length discrepancy at Mayo Clinic, in case you want to read about that https://www.mayoclinic.org/departments-centers/limb-lengthening-regeneration-clinic-minnesota/overview/ovc-20472088.

Is leg lengthening (your right leg) something you've looked into?

Hi Lisa, I have corrected the leg length with orthotics and am happy with that. I believe that the left leg issue is a hold over from before the surgery (surgeries). I also had a large left side herniation at L4 - L5. That and the tethered cord probably account for my left leg issues. I am ok with that as I have had 3 spinal surgeries including 2 herniated discs and a spinal compression between C5 and C7 and am able to walk and live a good life. All that said my issues were multiple and complex and most of them are now better.

Your son is very fortunate to have his tethered cord release as an infant. I am glad he is living a pain free and "normal" life! My mother noticed my dimple, but there were no MRI machines in the 60's. Her doctor told her it was nothing. It become an issue in my 40's.

My best, Janice
