Yes, the lobectomy was difficult. I'd compare it to my abdominal hysterectomy in terms of discomfort and recovery time, though the hysterectomy was more painful. I had the lobectomy because my right middle lobe was non-functioning and a repository for infection. Dr Mitchell at the University of Colorado did the surgery robotically and I was out of bed the next day and walking briskly by day 3. The surgery was recommended by my doctor at NJH, whom I totally trust, and Dr Mitchell has a lot of experience with MAC and bronchiectasis patients.

I was also 72 when I had the surgery. Good luck!

@coffcoff Thank you so much for the info. Do you feel that had any impact on your symptoms, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue?

@coffcoff You are so brave. Do you have MAC or other bacteria? May I know who is your doctor at NJH? I heard Dr. Mitchell is the best surgeon for BE. How long was the surgery?
