For those who are curious AREDS stands for Age Related Eye Disease Study. This study showed that a particular mix of nutrient supplements is helpful in slowing AMD. Here is what is in the AREDS 2 capsules:
Vitamin C 500 milligrams (mg)
Vitamin E 400 International Units (IU)
Copper (cupric oxide) 2 mg
Zinc 80 mg --- (This is a high amount of Zinc! 25 mg is normal.)
Beta-carotene REMOVED
Lutein 10 mg
Zeaxanthin 2 mg

@crossette AREDS 2 has nearly 1500% of DV of Zinc and after taking them for 3 years, I suffered a catastrophic copper deficiency, nearly died. This site reports AREDS 2 has toxic levels of zinc, which attacks copper. It took 17 copper infusions and 3-1/2 years of PT to get me out of a wheelchair to a walker. Without copper, you cease to exist as it's a conduit for nerves. OBTW, my optholmologist NEVER ordered a simple blood test. I'm acceptable collateral damage as NO warning on package and same daily recommended dose: 2 tablets per day. Eye doctors have NO clue and blindly recommend. I am still cold and numb from knees to toes, trigger fingers and pins and needle sensation on hips
