I’m kinda curious about the genetic component of osteoporosis. Both my mother and father had it and broke hips ( of course they were 80 and85). My father also had spinal breaks from bending over so he must have been very severe. I am 79 and have osteopenia and am trying to do things to prevent it from getting worse. I have an 18 pct chance of hip fracture in next ten years. I’m open to any suggestions other than medication.

@roxiesmom13

There are a number of subheadings under the main category Osteoporosis that deal with non medication approaches to osteoporosis care.
May ask what the objections are to medication.

@roxiesmom13n I have read that OP can be hereditary…but, we can be proactive with diet, carefully chosen supplements and exercise, which includes walking, resistance and weights. Especially balance—practice it every day ! (PS if you do use meds, be sure to tell your docs all of your health issues ! We want to help our bones without hurting the rest of ourselves !)
