My understanding reclast just slows OP from progressing. I did the three year suggested infusions (1 each year) with no side effects. My DEXA showed improvement, but there is more your Endo doc should show you and that is the percentages of change over the years, which they measure. I thought DEXA was the gold standard, but there is more to it. You also want a doctor that specializes in Osteoporosis besides being boarded in Endocrinology. I have had Osteoporosis for over 20 years and did actonel as prescribed, then the reclast infusions and am now being prescribed Evenity for bone growth, since my percentages have worsened. DEXA did not show much change since 2014. Prolia was my doctor’s second choice, but you need to take another OP med after that. It is the same with Evenity you need to do another maintenance med after that like reclast. I too have no thyroid and on meds for that too. I do as much research as I can as it relates to OP and that is how I found Mayo Clinic Connect. Good to have support going through a medical condition. I appreciate all the information shared.

@frog100 Thanks for sharing your story. Sounds like you've been through a lot and have a lot of experience with this. I am working on being diligent with getting the RDA of calcium and Vitamin D as well as low dose K2, also lifting weights 3 times a week. I cannot wrap my head around that my hip and spine are so much better than my forearm. Admittedly, my diet and upper body workouts have been almost non-existent. I just watched the video someone posted here where the Doctor talks about drug sequencing as well as FRAXplus scoring. FRAX score only takes into account the femoral neck of hip- I am at no risk of fracture there at all. So I am sitting on my Dr. recommendation of Reclast doing diet and weights. Best of everything on your osteo journey. I hope things only get better!
