Taper off of Prednisone! It is a great drug for very short term use, but long term it will attack your bones and muscles, give you diabetes and 150 other side effects. A few months of Prednisone crippled my legs!!! Doctors are not taught about this or tapering necessity in Medical School! Find a doc that is informed. Good wishes to you

@mnblue50 I wish it was that simple. The problem is that for some diseases and conditions, there is no available alternative to prednisone or prednisolone. The risks must be balanced against the need to use it long term. This mother's post is just one example:

Most of the physicians I have seen are keenly aware of the risks, and minimize the dosage and/or length of time on the medication wherever possible.

So we need to be careful about advising people here to "taper off" - that is medical advice best provided by their doctors.
