I realize these comments are over a year old but wondering if anyone has any more understanding of your situation.
My similarity in this thread is my bp eventually increases to severe levels if i stay on bp meds. It initially takes the bp down but then raises it. I have been in the ER 7 times in the last 2 years and have tried over 20 different meds from all categories. I'm not willing to risk the effects of the meds any longer so I am living with untreated high blood pressure (usually around 190/110). I have been to many doctors and this thread is the only time I have seen this mentioned.
Thanks

Hi @leze, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Your resistant blood pressure is caused by something, please do not give up!

I notice @swade88 commented and may have more to share.

You are headed for serious problems the longer your blood pressure is not controlled. Blood pressure is determined by two things: the amount of blood the heart pumps and how hard it is for the blood to move through the arteries. Here is some general information from Mayo Clinic if you haven’t had a chance to review it:

- Mayo Clinic High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) Overview:

I also found an article that may guide you through troubleshooting you can do yourself. I’m not familiar with the source so please don’t use this as a substitute for medical advice.

-Resistant Hypertension: When BP Stays High Despite Medication

I have had amazing success at Mayo Clinic MN and highly recommend their integrative care. You can pursue an appointment here: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

What guidance for follow-up do you get from the ER, especially after several visits? What have you learned about what is and what is not causing your hypertension?
