@kayabbott Is copper a heavy metal and is it in AREDS2 ? I too have AMD inherited from my dad, thanks dad. But, I thank Dad too for acquiring his genes in low blood pressure and high HDL. Good cholesterol. I'm grateful. I thought it was from my exercise, walking, my nephrologist said, no. My dad died at 93 from a fall, he also had prostate cancer. No heart disease. I hauled in all my (Andrew Lessman) supplements to see what she had to say. She said, there's no proof of what's really in them and they are expensive. She recommended Nature Made it has the USP seal. Affirming the ingredients. It makes sense to me. I was relieved to not have to take so many supplements. Honestly I can't say they have helped. A good B and D3 CoQ10. When there's a long list of various herbs who really knows what's in it. She told me to follow a Mediterranean diet, limit meat and hydrate. We took my labs. I was elated to find my Gfr climbed from 44 four months ago to 60. My creatine 1.26 lowered to 1.02. I've been diligently drinking 64 ounces of water, coffee, tea daily. She said my damage likely came from Aleve. I used to take to alleviate back pain years ago during my career as a postal worker. I stopped Nsaids, 6 years ago. I'll continue to hydrate, eat well and walk because I love to and grateful I still can.

@ddon Yes, copper and zinc are in AREDS2 and are heavy metals. Trace amounts are important to health and part of our RDA. AREDS2 has high levels of those metals and also fat soluble vitamins (A, D..). Because I have kidney disease I switched to a eye vitamin that has carotenoids and lutein (Maccuhealth there but should be other brands). Carotenoids are also found in colorful veggies such as carrots and beets. I also eat a mostly Mediterranean diet. My Stage 3 CKD resulted from norovirus 2.5 years ago.
