I have GERD, but mine is due to a small hiatal hernia and I have experienced pain exactly as described by @nortonrene. I take Lansoprazole at bedtime and sleep with the head of my bed raised. Not eating at least three hours before going to bed also helps. When I do get those spasms, I find a few sips of water relieves them. I always have my water bottle near me.

@rashida @nortonrene I have not had any issues with gastro esophageal reflux post Whipple in 2024 and when I had my spasms not much relieved them. I just tried to relax, take deep breaths and wait them out. Some were much stronger than others, that literally took my breath away. It has been three months since my last surgery due to an intestinal blockage from the Whipple scar tissue, so it makes me think that possibly the scar tissue may be the root cause of the spasm, but time will tell. The digestive system is complex with many moving parts! Will keep the "Whipple Spasm-ists" posted : )
