Hoping you get proton radiation is not real proactive. Prostate cancer treatments can really vary a lot depending on how proactive you are and how much you are involved in your treatment.

You need to ask your doctor if they have proton radiation. If they don’t, you can go to a different place that does have it. Unless you ask, you can’t expect to get it, You must be involved in your treatment.

A vast majority of radiation is done with photons these days.

The Mayo Clinic has four proton machines and is adding two more. Some places are looking for the best for their patients.

@jeffmarc Thanks. “Hoping” just meant I hope I qualify this time. For a previous cancer I didn’t qualify (per my insurance). I’m meeting with the radiation doc at Mayo next week to discuss all options. I appreciate the advice. In today’s world we have to advocate for ourselves and research every option thoroughly.
