@amaze02, you may also be interested in following the discussions in the Diabetes group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/diabetes-and-endocrine-problems/

9 weeks ago I had my hB1ac levels come in at 74, this was up from previous from 44. I immediately started a low Kcal diet of 800 Kcals a day with 4 litres of water. 8 weeks later I was tested again. My new level was 45, I was taken off all medication officially by the diabetic nurse. (I had already stopped taking them 4 weeks earlier)
9 weeks and 3 days after the first test I have lost 48 lbs and have more energy than ever. I still have the damaged nerves in my feet but none of the inflammation that caused it and the pain I was getting every evening. I can sleep uninterrupted.

Amaze02, I am a type 2 Diabetic for almost 12 years. One day I got up and I was numb from the buttocks down to the foot and toes on my right side. 6 months later Peripheral Neuropathy developed and progressed quickly in my right foot and ankle. My suggestion would be to keep your blood sugars stable, keep up physical activity. This Neuropathy is very painful, numb, cold and hot sensations, sensitivity to touch, tingling, burning, pins and needles, etc. MY doctor recently put me on Gabapentin to help the nerve pain.

In an ncbi.nim.nih article it says lowering triglycerides slows the progression. And also supplement ALA was the only supplement show to help.. the number of the article was PMC4239691

I am a T2 diabetic also . My blood sugars have been ok over the years . I was in a vehicle accident several years ago . I was rear ended by an 18 year girl that was driving without brakes . Since then I have had a laminectomy on my low back . That really helped with my pain in my feet and legs . I have also had several treatments of PRP injections in both of my feet . The PRP injections helped with the cold feet . My feet are no longer cold . I saw a Doctor Richard Arness at Sanford health in Fargo ND . Dr Arness is a Podiatrist . I also put a salve on my feet from Mary Janes medicinals . I mix it with Magnesium lotion . It also helps with the pain in my feet and legs . I am now making my own tinctures .
