Sandy19, I'm having TKR tomorrow and was told to be sure to wear shoes that tied. I did purchase a pair of Nikes after trying on several pairs of gym shoes at a local sports store for running/walking shoes. Never have I had so many questions about the different areas of my foot and how each felt when I walked on bare floor and carpeting with each pair I tried on, weight of socks was considered as well. I was told about a month post-op my gait would return to my regular style. I am a walker not a runner so these will be my shoes after 4-6 weeks. It's hard to give up sketchers & sandals during the summer but I have noticed additional knee pain when wearing those types of footwear while waiting for my surgery.
