Anyone have Squamous cell cancer and where?

I have had 7 basal cell, 2 squamous cell and 4 melanomas diagnosed and removed. Wide local excision is the gold standard for treating these diseases. Clear margins indicates the area is free of cancer at the cellular level. A lot of people are concerned about scarring and I understand, particularly for young people appearance is important. If there were a better way like creams or radiation that are equal to WLE, I would have chosen that option. From my personal experience as someone diagnosed with these skin cancers, a scalpel and sutures is the best treatment.

@nighthawk Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect and for sharing your many experiences with skin cancer. I've also had several BCCs, SCCs and one melanoma so four is quite a lot to have - good for you for detecting all of these!

Skin cancers vary in severity and, as such, treatment alternatives, such as those summarized here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/skin-cancer/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20377608

Wide local excision (WLE) is generally considered the gold standard in treatment of melanoma, occasionally used in higher risk or larger cases of basal cell (BCC) or squamous cell (SCC) cancers. However, in most of those skin cancers, the other treatments listed in the Mayo guidelines are usually selected and considered effective. As situations vary tremendously, it is important to have a discussion with your medical provider in selecting the most appropriate option.

It sounds like you've done your research and have made a decision that was right for you under your medical circumstances. I imagine you follow these guidelines as well: https://www.mayoclinichealthsystem.org/hometown-health/speaking-of-health/simple-steps-to-prevent-skin-cancer

Have you found your skin cancers on your own or do you go for regular skin checks with a medical provider?
