@coyote13, it sounds like you took the right steps to getting an appointment. Whether you call or fill out the online form, the process is the same. The online form asks for inital infomation and to schedule a phone appointment. It is a good idea to have your main points written out for the phone call to make sure you don't forget anything.

After the initial phone call, the scheduler will submit your records to the appropriate department for review by Mayo Clinic specialist(s).

The time to wait for acceptance approval and/or an appointment varies depending on the department, how busy it is and its capacity to take on new patients.

If you have concerns about the information you gave to the scheduler, you or your provider can contact the appointment office to add any important information.

@colleenyoung , thank you for the quick reply. I'm sure this describes many who try to get appointments there, but I'm desperate and wouldn't even know where else to turn, so I'm very pre-worried about being turned down.

@colleenyoung I couldn’t agree more with your point of having a written record. It’s so easy to forget stuff going off memory alone. I keep an updated document now of medical history. It just easier in phone discussions or office visits to have a document to refer to.
