@pandamom Hello, do you mind sharing the name of the doctor who is monitoring you for recurrence? I had a benign microscopic steroid cell tumor found incidentally when I had a total hysterectomy for a benign atypical polyploid adenomyoma of the uterus and my second ovarian dermoid cyst. The first dermoid and ovary were removed 15 years prior. I had yearly surveillance of the remaining ovary. I developed another dermoid, but the APA was found incidentally while monitoring the dermoid. Then, the SCT was found incidentally during surgical pathology. I didn’t have symptoms of either tumor and there are no pre-surgical lab values since the SCT wasn’t suspected. The APA is also extremely rare and had a high enough potential for recurrence and malignancy so hysterectomy was preferred since I was finished having children. I was 40 at diagnosis. I have worried about the SCT and feel I should be monitored, but it wasn’t recommended. I would love a second opinion from your doctor. I needed a second opinion to get the hysterectomy because my former gynecologist had never heard of the APA and didn’t bother researching it. She was only going to continue my yearly monitoring. The APA is not known to reoccur after hysterectomy, but the SCT is always in the back of my mind, even though it was microscopic. I was given the option of keeping my ovary since the dermoid was stable (it may have never grown large enough for removal), but after getting the SCT surprise, I am thankful I opted to remove it. We have similarities in risk factors- I got my period at a very young age (10). I did not take birth control for very long and also took it early on for menstrual symptoms. I hope you are doing well on your path. Thank you for reading about mine.

@joysideris1, welcome. Hopefully @pandamom will return to connect with you and answer some of your questions and share experiences.

I understand you are worried about lack of monitoring for steroid cell tumors. Did your doctor explain why continued monitoring wasn't recommended?
