I’m six weeks postop ACDF level two C5 C6 C7
My surgery went great. I woke up with my symptoms gone and just had the surgery manipulation pain, which had started to subside and I was taking 1-2 muscle relaxers a day.
At my two week, my doctor said that six weeks I could start back to work part-time, don’t lift more than 15 pounds, be smart
I’m a caterer and two days ago was my first day back for a small luncheon and I think I overdid it, even though I had help with heavy and hard stuff.
By the end of the day, I could barely move. When I woke up the next morning, I was very sore and achy. I took my muscle relaxer and acetaminophen and it seemed to go away for most of the day and wasn’t too bad before bed.
When I woke up this morning, I had some of my original neck, arm and shoulder pain/tingling/numbness, not as bad as it was originally, but I could feel it was there. I remember that feeling!!
Is this normal? Will it go away? Did I just make my nerves and muscles angry?
I’m doing nothing but sitting and icing it until my appointment in one week, but I’m a little concerned I may have screwed something up.

Thoughts anyone? Any insight appreciated!

Thanks in advance!!

@sarahep

I had 3-level fusion 8 years ago. Recovery is slow so don’t push it. I do neck/ shoulder exercises every day and have remained stable for a long time now. Expect ups and downs, especially if you push too hard. Good luck.
