I had Long RNY in 2003 and I have experienced insomnia since the surgery. I have had a couple of appointments with my surgeon through the years and I did ask about the insomnia. He acted as he had never heard of this. I have asked several doctors and went to a sleep specialist. The answer has always been sleep medication, that is not very effective. I would also love to find the answer to this issue as I do not want to take sleep medication for the rest of my life.
My small amount of research tells me insomnia can occur with digestive issues. I know I have poor digestion related to this surgery. I have not figured out how to work around that issue to help myself. I will keep questioning doctors and looking for answer.

I have sleep problems, but not sure if related to my RNY. Normally, people sleep better after losing weight. I have to take a sleep med, and will probably do so long-term.

If you saw a sleep specialist, I assume they ruled out sleep apnea. One of my problems is Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) . The movement in my legs was waking me up. Unfortunately, the answer is another med for RLS.

It is so hard to function during the day without sleep, so I take the meds even though I would rather be able to get a good night's sleep without.

Did the sleep specialist run any tests?
