Increasing breathing difficulty with Keytruda

Posted by curiouskitty @curiouskitty, Feb 16 6:58am

Hello. I am taking Keytruda for Stage 4 lung adenocarcinoma with mets to pleura and spine. After my 4th infusion I have experienced much more breathlessness to the point I’ve gone from being able to play some pickleball to being worn out after getting dressed! Is anyone else experiencing anything similar? I have two more infusions to go.

Could be pneumonitis. Get checked asap. Don’t wait and hope it goes away! Potentially serious but treatable.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I have had a few stents in the hospital for IV antibiotics to treat that illness. It’s no fun!

@lycisca I would be very interested in what your oncologist says about your breathlessness.
I have ct scans every 3 months and nothing shows up as far as anything that would cause these breathing issues.
They are so bad I am literally gasping and feel I could take my last breath any minute.
I pray you have some answers.

I'm sorry to hear that your breathlessness is so severe. Fortunately, mine is not that bad. After reading your post, yesterday after I did some modestly active work, I took my oxygen reading and it showed my oxygen at 94, so it appears to me that my problem is not the same as yours. I haven't yet contacted my oncologist because right now, she's helping me cope with digestive upset which may be contributing to my weakness.
I sincerely hope you find out what's causing the extreme breathlessness. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
