Since Mayo has started using the automated BP machines,I find their readings to be inaccurate compared to the manual method.There is no reason to apply tourniquet like pressure to a persons arm.it is painful.I have seen that a person can request a manual check, which will probably make the nurse upset.

I tell them every time that I want a manual cuff reading. With the manual cuff I get a more accurate and lower BP reading. My doctor told me that the auto cuff misreads because I have a low heart rate. But I also believe the extreme tightness and pain of the auto cuff causes a higher reading
