Eilgard late onset side effects

Posted by johnwf @johnwf, 3 days ago

I had my last injection of Eligard in November 2025, completing two years of treatment. I mentioned in a previous post that I had experienced only mild side effects during that time. However, since February, it seems the side effects I ‘dodged’ in the past were simply lying dormant! I am now experiencing frequent hot flashes during the day, accompanied by night sweats. While I feel lucky to have had two years of mild symptoms. I’m interested to hear if others have experienced these kinds of 'late-onset' side effects after finishing their treatment.
I also have radiation cystitis which is more noticeable at night, the best timing would be my body organising hot flashes and pee breaks together. No interest yet!

Make sure to get your testosterone checked every time you get a PSA check, That way, you know how quickly the testosterone is returning.

My brother had the hot flash problem after stopping ADT, It lasted about nine months, but became milder as time went by.

There are a number of ways to resolve hot flashes. One of the doctors at Mayo posted a list at their monthly meeting a few months ago. I’m including that list of drugs that you can take. Some people actually get Acupuncture and find out it works, but it can take a few sessions. I use an Embrlabs.com wave 2 device Which stopped my night sweats and helped during the day. Your problem may not last long enough to really need the device. Probably better off trying to take one of the medication’s. I actually got depo-provera Shots every three months and they stopped my hot flashes almost completely.

Were they 3 month shots? Six month shots? I had my last 6 month shot of Eligard October '25. Hot flashes galore still. Like Jeff said, it'll take some time for our T to come back.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks again for the additional information. I haven’t had an appointment with the urologist since last June, probably because my PSA levels have been low. Still, PSA isn’t the whole picture.
I have another blood test scheduled for mid‑June, and if the side effects are still bothersome, I’ll make sure to see someone. In the meantime, I’ll read up on the medication so that by June I’m well prepared, if needed.👍

During Eligard treatment—every 3 months for 2 years—with daily Zytiga and prednisone, I had hot flashes, which resolved with acupuncture. When I went off ADT, hot flashes returned until testosterone returned to normal levels, about 4-6 months.

Thanks, the info couldn't be more relevant to my treatment. 👍

I've been on eligard for 8 years getting 6 month shots. Had never ending hot flashes for 7 years. I sorta got used to it. Sometimes one every 15 minutes. I also had continuous UTIs for 5 years after a kidney stone lithotripsy and stent. 10 months ago my urologist put me on Demannos and cranberry 72 pac for the UTIs. It stopped the UTIs and as a side benefit, it ended the hot flashes. Good luck learning to live with this disease.

@29modela
I had terrible hot flashes from ADT For the first year.. My oncologist had me get a depo-provera Shot every three months and that ended the problem. There’s a lot of other solutions.

Nowadays, I don’t get a shot. I wear an Embrlabs.com Wave 2 device And it stops the hot flashes if they’re not as hot as they used to be. Works really great at night to stop everything.

Taking Eilgard for such a long time without much help on the side effects must have been awful. I'm pleased that indirectly Demannos and cranberry
helped!
