Pet Scan Question

Posted by broderbund1 @broderbund1, 6 days ago

Hi -

I was at MSK last week. Radiologist's nurse/assistant provided me with an order for a Pet Scan back in Florida. When I called the hospital today to schedule the order reads PET/CT Head/Neck/Cap - GAPSMA.

Just wanted to make sure she wrote it down correctly as I thought it might say PSMA Pet Scan???

GA is probably for Gallium being specified as the radioactive agent used with the PSMA.

There are 3 PSMA PET scans:
> 68Ga-PSMA-11 (Gallium68) PSMA PET: (trade name: Illuccix®).

> F18-DCFPyL (Piflufolastat) PSMA PET: (trade name: PYLARIFY®).

> F-18-Flotufolastat PSMA PET: (trade name: Posluma®).

As @jim18 mentioned, “GAPSMA” is likely their shorthand for the Gallium68 PSMA PET.
