Has the protocol on anabolics (thinking Tymlos/Forteo) changed?
I've been off forum for a while, trying to decide whether or not to start taking osteoporosis meds (severe in hips) - lots of research, hard decision as everyone in here knows. I've seen mention in here of the possibility of taking Tymlos/Forteo for longer than 2 years before switching to a bisphosphonate but don't know if that's official, or physician preference, or what Medicare does with that now etc.. That'd simplify my decision a little bit. I'm in the US. Anyone know anything about that possibility?

There is one person here who has taken Forteo for more than two years., with good results. I don't think it's simple to get approval. All the insurers are still using the "two years max" rule in their eligibility criteria, as far as I know. Also, the effectiveness of anabolics has been shown to wane in the second year, so I'm not sure how much of a benefit there is to staying on it. There isn't much research on it at all.

2 ReactionsIt seems I read more on this forum about people going from one anabolic to another. Not sure how much science backs it all up, what difference the sequence makes, and so on. But here is one study another group member provided that talks about the efficacy of going from teriparatide to Evenity, which is the route I am hoping to follow after a consult with new rheum next month. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11601723/

2 ReactionsThat's an interesting study. And yeah - I'm also pretty sure I've seen those posts in here, can't turn them up with a search. Thanks, cat.
