Burning ache at base of breastbone
Hello all! Please help! I was diagnosed with GERD years ago. I am on medicine for it. Almost every day at some point, I get a burning ache right at the base of my breastbone by my xyphoid. When I get it, I also feel lightheaded and foggy. It really is a nasty feeling. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? Could it be a hiatal hernia? I have mentioned it to the doctor several times and they just keep saying GERD. I had a cardiac pet scan done last week and go tomorrow to get the results. I am hoping that if something is there, maybe it showed up on the scan. Help!

Hi there ,
I have a hiatal hernia and I experience pain in that area but by no means go by what I say. Gerd sounds reasonable as well. I hope you get some answers tomorrow!

1 ReactionYes, I do as well. Not sure if it's exactly like yours however, if it is a bad day and I attempt my light weight training, I feel very faint to the point that I must lower my head for a bit. It's getting worse along with my bloat. I had an abdominal nerve block last week but it has done nothing to solve this problem, sadly.
I have Sjogren’s Disease as well as Cologenous colitis and EPI. My throat and esophagus dry out when I don’t suck on a moisturizing lozenge . I too have the symptoms that you have. In addition I get a heavy feeling in my esophagus and pressure radiating to my eustacheon tubes. An esophagram showed some age related immobility but no major problems. I guess that I just have to live with it.
Has your doctor done an endoscopy? That is how my hiatal hernia was diagnosed. I am now on esomprazole every morning as soon as I sit up in bed - I'll be on that from now on. I keep my head elevated at night. I use Tums and pepcid when it gets worse.
