Does any neurologist prescribe Alpha Lipoic Acid?
R-ALA features very heavily on this forum as a potential remedy for peripheral neuropathy. Does any Neurologist actually prescribe it.

@2longlife
Just wanted to say “hello” as I’m in the Triangle as well. My Neuro is Dr. Baker at Duke, and I’ve seen Dr. Hobson-Webb as well. Nice see a local here!
I’ve been taking ALA for several years. I can’t tolerate Gabapentin at all. The ALA I take is from Amazon, but it’s available everywhere.
I take 600 mg. twice a day.
@tsinnc Thanks for the welcome. Actually I am in Greenville, SC. I have used Duke many times over the years. This time it was do to inability to get an appointment with a Greenville Neurologist sooner than seven months out. Duke is great! Thanks again for your welcome.
@SusanEllen66 Do you take R ALA?
Mine has me on 100mg per day and 600mg of Lipoic Acid. I been on these for over a year. Unless I don't keep up my exercises, it seems to help. I'm 75.
@itsmeagain
Yes 600mg alpha Lipoic acid really does work.
I found out about it here and my neurologist approved it.
Try it and good luck.
@rnlorena Has the ALA helped? How much do you take?
@jchet Per my neurologist I take 600 mg daily. I have been taking it since 2021. Since I woke up with full onset of paresthesia (pin pricks) that were going off 24/7) the Alfa Lipoic Acid did wonders. It took the majority away and then I had occasional ones. Right now with my cervical spine having issues I noticed the pin pricks and they go off whenever they want. @rnlorena
