Has anyone had minimal side effects from Reclast

Posted by aspirecreative @aspirecreative, 5 days ago

I now can't remember if I asked this already. I see so many scary reports on long-term side effects from Reclast. It has been on the market a long time. I am wondering if those who had minimal side effects and also good results can weigh in. Thank you!

I also did the Tylenol day of, and a couple of days after also...along with a full 64 oz water day before, day of, and a couple of days after; no antihistamine though but zero side effects beyond a bad headache (worse than what I'm used to) on day 5 but it was only a couple of hours and I am headache prone so not super bad. Got the info from this website and Inspire...infusion center never heard of or done a slower drip; I was in and out of there in 40 minutes (including the 20 or so to make sure you don't have an allergic reaction). I think hydration is of utmost importance; Reclast can (not will!) mess with kidneys.

@aspirecreative , it's very reassuring that you had such good gains with Evenity even after taking anti-resportives for 4 years. Did you take a drug holiday in between stopping Fosamax and starting Evenity, and if so, for how long?

I'm also curious about how many doses of Reclast they are planning for you following Evenity. Is it just the 1 infusion?

@wondering1 It wasn't a holiday, but it did take a few months to get the Evenity. I don't know how many doses of Reclast are planned.

I had my first Reclast treatment 2 days ago. I followed the advice found on this forum and took a dose of Tylenol 650mg and an antihistamine 30 minutes before the IV. I also asked my provider to do it over 60 minutes (which is not the protocol at this facility but she agreed). She also agreed to add a saline drip with it (not protocol but agreeable to her). After the IV I took Tylenol every 4 hours 3 more times that day and every 4 hours the next 2 days (4 total doses). I plan to do this tomorrow, then stop the Tylenol. No side effects so far. I felt fine the last 2 days and was able to resume normal activities. I was also very fearful for many reasons (mostly due to side effects I had heard reported on this forum). I had finished Evenity in December 2025 and had some improvement in bone density. The plan is to do once a year for 2 more years than a drug holiday.

@deborahla Interesting. Am wondering if your doc advised taking a few month break between Evenity and Reclast. I am seeing differing opinions on this.

I was told by my provider 1-2 months break is recommended between Evenity and Reclast. My break was about 2.5- 3 months.

I have had three Reclast infusions with no noticeable side effects. The Reclast followed 2 years on first Tymlos then Forteo (which didn’t give me as much racing heartas Tymlos) after a hip fracture/replacement (skiing fall) and discovery of severe osteoporosis in 2019. After second Reclast had good DEXA results which then started declining so had a 3rd round round of Reclast about a year ago.
