I was worried at first of the dangerous side effects of Jardiance as well. My nephrologist assured me they are very rare. I have been taking it for 2 years now without any side effects, and have seen my blood sugar improve dramatically. I hope this helps everyone.

When I asked about side effects to watch for, my Mayo nephrologist said possible fatal skin rash and more frequent peeing. Why would I sign up for death by skin rash when CKD with no possibility of transplant is already in progress?

My local nephrologist qualified his colleague's response by saying the fatal rash is rare. None of his patients have had a skin rash. Regular bathing/washing should prevent the rash.

He added that it is okay to stop taking Jardiance without needing to wean off of it. I am allowed to skip days when I am on adventures with the grandkids. I had constructed (in my head) a scenerio in which I spent the whole adventure looking for restrooms while everyone else was with the kids. These life experiences are golden and I am loathe to fritter my time away. (I am one of 10 people in the world with ITG. Studies have found that other ITG patients needed dialysis within four years of diagnosis and survive about three years after that. I am on on year four and half but not yet needing dialysis. Fingers crossed but I still don't squander my remaining time.)

I am not diabetic. Taking Jardiance _has_ reduced swelling in my ankles which was the stated goal.
