Nubeqa vs Lupron

You should change a doctor ASAP !!!! I am no doctor and am pretty new here but even I know by now that Lupron and Nubequa work in completely different way and have different side effects.

Lupron completely blocks production of testosterone while Nubequa blocks testosterone from adhering to cancer cells .

Must admit, I don’t think I’ve ever heard such an incorrect statement made by a doctor. Not only are the drugs very different but they make you feel very different.

Lupron has numerous side effects it reduces your testosterone to almost zero, Which ends your Desire for a sex life, Gives you hot flashes, Weakens your bones, Destroys your muscles, and can make some people very depressed. And that’s only the beginning.

Nubeqa Essentially has no side effects for most people and does not reduce your testosterone.

You definitely need to go to a different doctor.

I hope you misheard the doctor. Those two drugs do NOT do the same thing, not even close. Yikes.

Mea culpa. I apologize to all who responded. My mind was scattered. I meant will Nubeqa be effective once Xtandi stops working. My husband has a genetic mutation CDK12 which makes cancer more aggressive and resistant to treatments. Doctor feels chemo is only next option. Pluvicto failed

Nubeqa and Xtandi are both -lutamides (as is Erleada). It's possible one will work after another fails, but I think you get the biggest benefit from the first one you take.

One thing to consider is switching to an ADT drug that is an agonist like Lupron or if you’ve already been on that and it didn’t work then get Orgovyx Which is an antagonist and works a little bit differently. Sometimes one or the other will work for people that have a problem.

As @northoftheborder says, It’s not real likely that Darolutamide Will work after Xtandi stops working. If you’re having problematic side effects with Enzalutamide it Is definitely worth trying switching to Darolutamide To see if it works better. It has fewer side effects for most people.

Speak to your doctor about this.

Give the doctor a break. I think he was just simplifying it. Both keep testosterone from helping cancer cells grow.

@emteenest2 in my opinion as only a patient, it is difficult to provide you with good feedback, given the limited information provided. The specific stage of cancer and prior treatments are importantly to understand when providing input on recommended next trestments.

In general, for patients with CDK12 mutation, my understanding is that when Xtandi is no longer effective, oncologists typically try PARP inhibitors, Pluvicto, and Chemo.

Perhaps getting another treatment opinion from an oncologist at a treatment center of excellence would be a prudent next step, given all of the variables in making a decision and all of the information from recent studies with later stage prostate cancer patients.
