Are you on statins for cholesterol? That can cause severe myalgia. Other medications can also. Mine hurt like the dickens just when trying to get up and down. My ferritin is low and wondered if that could affect muscles. Do you have any autoimmune diseases that might affect muscles? Is it only legs?

@loyd1957 I think your point about a statin causing or contributing to this leg pain is a good one. If you are taking the statin, stop taking it for a few days and see what happens, and be sure when taking it, to take it in the AM, not before bedtime.

You could try meloxicam 15 mg or tramadol 50 mg and up. Those should be helpful.

@starbright375 I have Fibromyalgia, RLS, arthritis, neuropathy etc. Along with Fibro prescription meds, I find it helps my sleep to use a product called Calm by Natural Vitality. It is a magnesium powder that I mix in water. There are a couple of flavors but none of it tastes bad, to me. I have used it daily for about 6 years with no side effects. I have found my path through all the disease I have, through researched homeopathic/ vitamin support. I have to do many things to make my quality of life better. I am prescribed Tizanadine muscle relaxer to help me sleep, It helps with RLS and with the sleep disorder that accompanies Fibromyalgia. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you. It is a fact that if you have quality sleep, your pain will be lessened.

@charliegirl Thank you for kind recommendations. The Calm by Natural Vitality sounds good because my sleep time could be a lot better. I have been reading lots of articles and comments on message boards about neuropathy. I have pain in my shins and ankles. It could be tendintus or neuropathy although I don't have pins and needles, I have a burning or vice grip feeling that started after I turned the tension up on my exercise bicycle and a couple weeks later it started. I need to find out the reason I have pain. Right now I am taking Vitamin 23 , 5000 methylated; and magnesium 200. According to articles and message boards it takes awhile for nerves to heal if it is neuropathy. I hope your days ahead are better too. I will be looking for your sleep aid and hope it helps me too....we are all different but sometimes heal the same.

I’ve had leg and ankle pain for 5 yrs. No one could figure out where it was coming from. I changed sports med doctor, and the new doc ordered another MRI from a different location. It made all the difference - My leg pains were coming from lower back, so now on PT, and soon to get an injection. It’s a process, and one that has taken way too all about finding the right doctor.

@ginger123 update… Had spine injections, and waiting for it to settle. Ortho surgeon said hip will need replacing. He doesn’t like hip injections … no PRP or steroids….. Thinking that’s from a surgeon’s standpoint… I’d like to try NSAIDS, PT and an eventual injection before getting a replacement.
Question: How long to wait before getting a replacement?

@rponcelet please tell us your age, your condition (exercised/overweight/fragile/healthy) , the things (pain management YOU HAVE TRIED), the surgeries you've had, the MRI's you've taken (or xrays), the doctors you've seen, how many years you've been experiencing the pain, and the medicine you have tried. You are stabbing in the dark here with no direction known!

I had a back surgery December 12. Everything was fine for three weeks. Then I started to have shooting pains down my left leg and went back to the doctor at Methodist Hospital. They just keep pushing you off it has gotten so bad I can’t sleep in a bed or sit in a chair told a lot of pain. Thank God I have my wife to help me I was very physical fit, except my back hurt before wish. I never had a surgery.

I have had constant leg and foot pain for over 15 years now. Back surgeries, physio and buckets of medication did not help it go away. Couldn’t sleep and like you sitting and laying down only made the pain worse. Was in great shape and I still do a limited exercise program and that time when I am exercising I can almost forget the pain.
The only thing that helped was TENS. Even the cheapish ones you can buy in the pharmacy really helped. I found Dr. Ho’s worked the best because it gave you so much room for intensity and long sessions.
What I honestly saved my life was the implant of a neuro stimulator.
There are still occasions where I need to add an external TENS but at least now some nights I do get some sleep.

@ginger123 I had my left hip replaced in 2016 after suffering chronic pain with it. I couldn’t walk without limping, so that decided it for me. I didn’t want to be on ibuprofen the rest of my life.

@ginger123 May I ask what kind of injection is planned -- an epidural (cortisone) or some other medication that is autoinflammatory in nature? Thanks! (I have lower back issues with compressed vertebrae and bulging disks, plus scoliosis that give me weakness in my legs, same on the left leg as the right. Surgeon suggests implanting metal rods in my back, with a year long recovery period. I'm a 78 year old male. I don't like the way that looks, want some alternatives.

@laughlin1947 I had an epidural, both sides of L5,S1. Going back this week for consult because of continued leg and knee pain. Never had knee pain before…. Doctor said if L5 injection didn’t take care of it, she may do an L4 shot. I also have left hip and groin pain, so it’s frustrating, and wish they’d find the source of pain…..
