I have recently been diagnosed with DCIS, 1 cm, and have been told that lumpectomy is the standard of care. Unfortunately, this non-invasive little thing is right up next to my nipple, and two surgeons have said that in order to get clear margins, the lumpectomy turns into a partial mastectomy, with full nipple and areola removal. I'm hesitant to move on it quickly, as it has a lot more ramifications than I had expected for a DCIS lumpectomy. I'm seeing the oncologist next week, and look forward to her thoughts. None of us should be having to deal with any of this!!
