KEGEL APP for Prostate Cancer Patients; Search for updated info

I did a search on the forums about Kegel apps, but didn't know if there is an app that is targeted for men who are doing therapy....vs. trying to boost sexual performance.

Is there a Kegel app you've used that worked well for you?

For me, I'm probably just looking for a timer /reminder app. I wear an Apple Watch, so if it integrates, that would be cool, but not mandatory.

However, if you can find a PT that specializes in PFM for males it is likely better.

1. you will need more than basic Kegels
2 you can learn to do some practical/mixed Kegels like when getting out of a chair or certain other movements/activities (look up the 'Knack)
3. You will also need to get into bladder retraining
It seems we are at a place in time when outcomes are really getting better and so is the treatment
What is missing seems to be a common, research-based protocol for how many Kegels to do a day, what type of Kegels ( there are many, slow muscle, fast muscle, progressive, applied) under what circumstances, what to watch out ( you can definitely do too many ( can fatigue muscles and delay progress, can cause other problems)
It seems many recommend two or three sets of ten-15 a day including long and short ones. This seems like the middle ground. I have come across some saying they do them every hour which seems troublesome.
My Pt really wanted me working on form,, core strength, breathing and not doing that many a day ( two sets of five long, four sets of fast ones, five sets of progressive and then specific core and activity training ( again like getting up and down from a a chair or picking a kid up )
I really think my PT helped me considerably.
There is a book ten weeks to continence or something like that that can be helpful, However, i believe she recommends too many Kegels a day and ten weeks is really unrealistic for many men. I took my book to Good Will
I hope you get over incontinence quickly and efficiently the American Urological Association and some research from NIH states that the majority of men get better at close to a year. This is the case for me ( I am past a year but getting better

Appreciate that endorsement. Just wanted to hear from someone in the patient group who had used it. $3 is so worth it if it keeps you on schedule. Planning on starting my entry point on kegels today.

This is incredibly helpful!! Thank you for all of that info. I've got a bunch of action items to figure out.

• Checking out the youtube videos.
• Never heard of the Knack other than My Sharona, but it's on my playlist.
• Yes, how much is the right amount of Kegels and how not to fatigue the PFM? Seems like a wide variance. Thanks for those guidelines.
• I had already bought Vanita Gaglani's book "Life after Prostate Cancer: A step by step guide to stop urinary leakage in 10 weeks." There is a ton of useful information on regaining continence, dietary guidelines and kegel exercise routines mapped out week by week. I think it's going tobe a great resource. She talks a lot about NOT overworking the PFM. But, getting advice from an in-person PT would be super helpful. (side note to folks: make sure to buy the 2019 edition of the book, not the earlier one)

she refers to this before coughing or sneezing. I was advised to do this when exerting myself like lifting something or going up a ladder.

Bladder training can also be important

essentially the article advances an 8 week program that combined PFM training, with bladder retaining. also important to note biofeedback and electrical stimulation did not yield significant results.

Wow-super helpful. Thanks for all those links. I've got some good homework to do, but very grateful for pointing me in the right direction.

Wondering....if we cough or sneeze, would it be better to say , Knack you!.... Probably not.

Just to report back...I did go ahead and get the Easy Kegel app and paid the $3 extra for more reminder times. The app has been incredibly helpful for keeping me on track.

Side note: I've discovered that it is much easier to do Kegels properly laying down vs. standing. I can do the long holds easily laying down, but much hard to do it with proper form sustained while standing. I've got four weeks to go to surgery day, so think I'll get there. Thanks for all the recommendations!

Yes : ))), that is great app !!!

My husband used it (his nurse at UCSF informed him about it ) - of all books and 2 PT sessions he liked this app the best. He did those particular app. exercises sitting in a chair trying to have correct pelvic "tilt" while doing them but I do not think that it is super necessary. For my husband it was important since his "tilt" (don't ask me what it is actually or what is a correct pelvic tilt lol ) was somehow "off", according to PT instructor.

And yes : ))) - YOU WILL get there : )), I have no doubt about that !

I like the app because it is so simple. Definitely need some simplicity in my life right now.
