Does anyone treat their neuropathy without pharmaceutical drugs?
I’ve recently been diagnosed with neuropathy and given gabapentin for pain. I am concerned about the many side effects of this drug. I don’t know why I have this condition as I am not diabetic and have no pinched nerves in my spine. I’m 78 and pretty healthy except for this. I exercise at the gym 4-4 times a week and walk several miles when I don’t go to the Y.
Anyone have suggestions for me?

Thanks for that info but I doubt I have a chiropractic school near me--maybe there is one in Manhattan. I am seeing a physiatrist in two days. Perhaps he can recommend a place with laser.
Have your autoimmune markers checked by a rheumatologist. My markers are high and I tested positive for lupus mixed tissue disease Hashimotos and Sjogrens has been renamed Sjogrens neuropathy which Truthfully I don’t understand because you have to have autoimmune markers to test positive. As far as gabapentin I will not take it. My mouth breaks out and I have memory problems on it one of the side effects is memory loss. My sed rate is 126 which is very high not including the rest of the markers.

@patriciaschulz1950 every day pain level is diff. Goes between 5 to 8. I also have a Leg Exerciser I use everyday, keeps blood flowing in my legs. Really helps.
I had that once and had great difficulty. Head vessels putting pressure on nerves. Then Lyrica. Still has side effects. I find a workout program that I do every other day is most helpful for relaxing and it seems to help reduce recurrences. I use “Grow Young Fitness”. Just google it. I like it because I do it quite easily at home at my convenience. I have to keep a schedule of every two days or three times a week. Nominal cost and once downloaded, you have it.
Very professional chair workout. Also helps with my knee issues.
Have you considered slowing down on your exercise and walking? I do Senior exercises on YouTube, and the increased circulation stops the pain! VOLTAREN pain reliever also helps until the circulation increases again.
It works for me. Vyolet
Have you ever considered acupuncture to either improve or restore nerves damaged or excluded by the effects of pervasive neuropathy? I am attempting to see if this application of Chinese medicine will help to improve nerve pathways in the body which are called meridians. There is also an ancient Chinese massage method called Tuina designed to relax and restore the body experiencing bouts of pain originating in that body. I wish us both wellness that lessons our pain.
@dancer26 Can you explain exactly what side effects you had with Lyrica? I just started taking it and have been feeling a bit foggy-headed and off balance. Glad to hear that you have found an exercise regimen that helps. Have a blessed day.

I did not receive laser treatment therapy. I have had red light therapy which I get at a local physical therapy establishment. Today I saw a physiatrist for pain in my shin due to poor healing from a shave biopsy and he is trying to treat me holistically. I am going to be using a massage cream with frankincense, myrrh, lavender oil and saffron oil. I have celiac disease and neuropathy and am very sensitive to needles so cortisone is out. Time is a big healer--at least I hope so. But I am aware of sports rehab places in NYC that do provide laser therapy.
