Side Effects of Evenity?

Posted by bradford14design @bradford14design, Nov 4, 2024

I had my 11th injection of Evenity last week. I asked the nurse if any other patients receiving Evenity complained of side effects. He said no. I find this very hard to belive. Would love to hear from those who have experienced side effects.
Mine were mostly felt 12 days after the shots.
Foggy brain for 2-3 days
Low energy
Off balance
Sleep issues
Itchy arms- one time after shot
Red face- a few hours after the shot

@lidiad I had my 10th injection two days ago. Early on I experienced muscle twitching which eventually passed. Throughout treatment I’ve had muscle and joint pain, some sleep disturbances and fatigue. Bouts of fatigue have been my most troubling side effect. But all side effects have been manageable. Although just after my most recent injection my lower back, “went out” and I am currently experiencing severe muscle spasms and pain. This may or may not be due to injection, just coincidence and bad timing.

@artistel81 I did 12/ 1 year of Evenity. I didn't have any of those side effects. But I did have a knuckle shaped bone grow in between vertebrae. It was pushing on a cage at L4 & compressed nerves in my spinal cord. I recently had surgery to correct the problem.
Which my Nuerosurgeon believes the bone growth was due to the Evenity. I wish you well.

Thank you so much for your reply and experience. That is certainly discouraging to hear. I continue to have lower back pain, some pain radiating into my legs. I hope I don’t have a similar issue as you. I also hope the risk will have been worth the gain. Did your bone density improve? Wishing you positive health moving forward.

Hello. Regarding your question of my DEXA scan. No it didn't improve. After 1 year of Evenity 2023-2024 & 2 Prolia injections in 2025 my risk of fracture has went 11% to 20%. I've already had fractures in my spine & my L4-L5 vertebrae actually cracked in half. Which required surgery in 2023. Im due to start a second round of Prolia in May. I was only 57 when this all started. I wish you the best.

I had some severe arm pain after the first injections in the arms which lasted about a week. For the 2nd and 3rd injections, I asked the nurse to give it to me in the belly and that's been much better. There's some local tenderness for a day or so.

As far as other side effects, I can't pin them on Evenity as I'm being checked for MGUS which could be causing these other symptoms. It's difficult to say that fatigue etc. is due to Evenity.

When I agreed to go on Evenity, I made a commitment to myself to accept minor physical nuisances. The alternative is a fracture. I saw my mother suffer from multiple fractures and I don't want that for myself. I made a commitment to myself to be positive and grateful that I can afford this expensive medication and I will see it through to the end of the regimen. I am staying positive about it. I read too much "doom and gloom" on here. People must not understand that the alternative for someone with severe osteoporosis is a fracture and possible debility for the rest of your life.

I have had 10 evenity shots! So glad I am nearing the end of the regimen. I get them in abdomen each time. The side effects I’ve experienced are joint pain and insomnia. While I try to limit usage, I do take aleve pm 3 to 4 times a week to at least help me fall asleep.
I have had huge improvements in bone density. Currently researching prolia as that is the drug preferred by my dr.
I hesitated to start treatment as well. Once the words “ you are at risk for fracture” are heard the reality of severe osteoporosis is vivi, real and requires action. I’m 76, and fairly active and hope to keep it that way!
Wishing everyone improvement and success!

I had my first shots two weeks ago. I've noticed more muscle spasms and cramps than usual. I've gained 3 lbs that I can't get rid of. And I'm have some digestive problems I think are from it.
