The Elekta Unity is an SBRT treatment with a built in MRI. It treats the entire prostate plus a margin around the prostate. That margin with a built in MRI is 2mm vs 3-5 for most other radiation machines, so less healthy tissue is exposed with the 2 mm which means less side effects.
I was diagnosed in September of 2022 at age 69, with a 3+4 gleason and 10.29 PSA with urinary restrictions. My Decipher score was low risk and my MyRisk genetic test showed no gene issues. I looked at all options on the market and completed 5 hypo fractional treatments with the Mridian on February 15, 2023. I had spaceoar inserted two weeks before my treatment.
After my third treatment, I had greater urinary restriction and took Flomax, which I had prescribed ahead of time, and that took care of my restriction overnight, for the most part. Treatment was, showing up with the right amount of liquid in my bladder, which they could see in real time, lie on the table in the right position and have the radiation done while I watched relaxing images of mountains and streams inside the MRI type tube with a screen at the end of the tube for the images.
When I drove around for a couple of months thereafter, I carried a hospital pee bottle with me which I did use on two occasions.
