I had my Nissen many years ago back in 2007. It was amazing at first until I got the stomach bug. I literally vomited up my stomach.....
I herniated through my wrap and had to have it repaired. They decided to half wrap it and tack it to my diaphragm. That got me 6-8 months and it herniated again.... Reflux was terrible!!
I went back in and had is fully wrapped again. We'll guess what! It herniated again! I was doctoring elsewhere and decided to come to the Mayo. I was told to leave it until I have major issues or have a gastric bypass. That was in 2009/2010. Fast forward to today.
I ended up in alot of pain that I thought was gallbladder. I vomit every single day. Especially in the early morning. No I am not pregnant.
I am herniated more then I have ever been over 10 cm
I am scheduled to have the gastric bypass/reconstruction here in May.
I am scared but so hopeful this will finally help me. I am grasping this journey and am excited to do this and feel better.

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. I can’t think of a better place to have it than Mayo. I know if I ever have to have a redo, that’s where I’ll go. The surgeon’s experience with Nissen makes a big difference on the success of this particular surgery (from the research I’ve read). A former therapy patient of mine had a failed Nissen so I suggested he go to Mayo Jacksonville and he had a significantly better result.

Which Mayo Clinic will your surgery be done at? My surgeries were at Jacksonville.

Good thoughts and prayers as you go through your surgery and recovery. I don t know how I would have fared if I did not have friends and family having me in their thoughts and uplifting prayers in my behalf.
